Director of Regulatory Affairs

Engagement
Full-time, in-house
Compensation
$150,000–$185,000
Location
Los Angeles or remote (US)

Gatewell Group is a Los Angeles compliance firm working the FCC Covered List: vendor-bench diligence, origin evidence, and Conditional Approval filings for manufacturers and the US companies that buy from them. We are hiring a new Director of Regulatory Affairs.

The Director coordinates operations across our regulatory practice lines — equipment authorization, Conditional Approval filings, and the evidence standards behind both — and directs every technical filing the firm makes.

You would set the evidentiary standard, not inherit one.

What you would do

  • Direct the technical content of Conditional Approval filings to the FCC and the reviewing agency — DoW for robotics, DoW or DHS for inverters — including per-component BOM origin, supply-chain concentration analysis, and the officer certification package.
  • Own agency correspondence. You are the firm's technical voice on the record.
  • Set the evidentiary bar for Gatewell Protocol origin-evidence work, and review analyst work product against it.
  • Advise clients on equipment-authorization strategy, including permissive-change exposure for already-authorized devices under the Class I/II restrictions and the DA 26-789 software waiver.
  • Screen prospective filing engagements. We decline cases we do not believe in, and you would hold that line with us.

Who this is for

  • Ten or more years inside FCC equipment authorization. The strongest candidates are former lead reviewers at a Telecommunication Certification Body, former FCC OET staff, or senior certification engineers at an FCC-recognized lab.
  • You have read more failed applications than most consultants have read successful ones, and you can say precisely why they failed.
  • Working knowledge of 47 CFR Part 2 Subpart J, the KDB publications, and the Covered List framework as it has developed since the December 2025 drone listing.
  • You can write for a regulator. Most of this job is written.

Compensation and location

  • $150,000 to $185,000, depending on depth of agency experience.
  • Full-time, in-house. Los Angeles preferred; remote considered for the right background.
  • Client and agency travel as filings require.

We screen every engagement and every hire against OFAC/SDN, and we do not take PRC-nexus work.
